We Cherish Dartmoor

Our aim is to ensure our guests enjoy the many unique attributes Dartmoor National Park has to offer whilst constantly seeking new ways to reduce our Carbon Footprint and minimise any harmfull effects our enterprise may have on the environment, thereby demonstrating our commitment to preserving Dartmoor National Park for the future generations.’

Successes & Accreditations We are delighted to be one of the FIRST signatory’s to “DARTMOOR FIRST” officially launched on 13th May 2009 it is the successor to the Dartmoor Charter for Sustainable Tourism. Its purpose is to engage with all businesses and communities on Dartmoor and recognise first and foremost their commitment to looking after Dartmoor.

The Dartmoor First award is made by Dartmoor National Park Authority’s Sustainable Tourism Officer who is supported by a panel. The panel is in place to ensure continuity of the award, to avoid ‘greenwashing’ and also to ensure that the award remains relevant and pertinent. Whilst there is only one tier of award, the panel identify possible champions and ambassadors for the scheme who in their opinion are deemed to excel in conserving Dartmoor and best environmental practice.

In turn the champions & ambassadors for the scheme are encouraged to promote ‘DARTMOOR FIRST’ and to share ideas on best environmental practice. We have been honoured by Dartmoor National Park Authority as they have asked us to be the first champions for ‘Dartmoor First’; we have agreed and we look forward to working with them in sharing ideas and advice on best environmental practice.

We also have a GOLD AWARD from the ‘GREEN TOURISM BUSINESS SCHEME’; their highest possible accolade thereby demonstrating excellence in ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE. Green tourism is a term used to describe best environmental practice within the tourism sector. It covers issues such as business efficiency, environmental management, waste, transport, as well as topics like social responsibility and biodiversity. If you would like to know more about the GREEN TOURISM BUSINESS SCHEME then please visit www.green-business.co.uk. Following this we have both completed a course in “Managing your Environmental Responsibilities” administered by IOSH(Institute of Occupational Safety & Health).
